What Is the Deal With Some People Wanting to See Programs Like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Eliminated? Is It Becoming "Trendy" to Be Callous and Heartless?

Modern-day Republicans and Tea Party wingnuts don’t necessarily want to eliminate Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. But they would like to see them privatized because they believe that the private sector would handle them better, which is pure insanity. Had President George W. Bush succeeded in turning Social Security over to the banksters who wrecked the U.S. economy (and many other economies as well) in 2008, many seniors would have been left homeless and hungry. Government programs need to remain government-operated because banksters, health insurance companies and other crony capitalists cannot be counted on to behave responsibly and do the right thing.
Richard Nixon, for all his bad qualities, was smart enough to realize that free-market capitalism has its place and government has its place. Nixon, in fact, expanded Medicare (which started under LBJ) and supported universal health care. But modern-day Ayn Rand worshippers like Paul Ryan have a very different point of view, and God help America’s seniors if the vipers who raped the U.S. economy in 2008 are allowed to rape Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
