Why Don't Liberals Watch Fox News?

After Barack Obama was reelected in 2012, liberal columnist Eugene Robinson argued that liberals need to find the most intelligent, learned conservatives available, hear them out, try to understand where they’re coming from and debate them. Robinson’s point was that if liberals can find sharp intellectual minds on the right and effectively counter their arguments, they will be better liberals for it. Robinson had an excellent point. But the problem is that Fox News, AM talk radio, Breitbart, World Net Daily and other far-right media outlets are not looking for the next William F. Buckley (agree or disagree with him, Buckley was sharp). They are comprised of carnival barkers and extreme tribalists who never let facts get in the way of their bloviating or their agenda.
There are some intelligent, reasonable people on the right, such as Michael Smerconish at CNN. But trying to have an intelligent conversation with the likes of Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and Michael Savage is an exercise in futility. How do you have an intelligent conversation in a Bizarro World where widespread medical bankruptcies are perfectly acceptable, Saddam Hussein really did have weapons of mass destruction, Dwight D. Eisenhower was a Marxist, Barack Obama is a citizen of Kenya but not the U.S., Birmingham, UK is under Shariah law, and the New Black Panthers are part and parcel of the Democratic Party? Fox News, AM talk radio, Breitbart and World Net Daily make the John Birch Society look liberal by comparison.
