Why Did the 1960s "Make Love, Not War" Crowd Become So Different in Old Age?

White Baby Boomer in 1969: “Make love, not war. Power to the people. Free Huey! Justice for Fred Hampton! I hate Nixon; Nixon is such a fascist. Mom and Dad are total squares; they still listen to Doris Day and Guy Lombardo. Why can’t they be hip and get into Jefferson Airplane and Cream?”
The same White Baby Boomer in 2018: “Get off my lawn! I hate Millennials! Katy Perry is the worst! Jay-Z is an outrage. Why can’t these kids today believe in personal responsibility like I did at that age? They’re so entitled. Nixon was too liberal; he wasn’t a true conservative. I love Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. Sean Hannity does my thinking for me. Thank God Trump is president. Tell the government to keep its hands off my Medicare.”
The cruel irony: when the Republi-Con wingnuts are finished raping Social Security and Medicare for their bankster friends, the Fox News-watching Boomers over 65 who voted for them and signed their own death warrants are going to be in a world of serious pain. They’ll be wishing to God that Bernie Sanders were president when they get a taste of the pre-New Deal hell that the GOP (Gruesome Old Plutocrats) have in store for them.
It won’t be pretty.
